About Us
Background
Asia Brazil Connection (or ABC) started as an international trade consulting business focused on the international gems and jewelry market. Over time, ABC expanded its international trade consulting services to other industries. This transition happened gradually, and largely due to ABC’s Managing Director and Senior Partner Marcelo Souza’s experience as President of the Brazil-Thai Chamber of Commerce (BTCC) and as a Director at the Board of Trade of Thailand (BOT). Marcelo and his ABC team have fully supported BTCC members in many aspects of trade between Thailand, Brazil, and other ASEAN nations.

While BTCC has many corporate members providing professional services that are fit to support specific companies entering or operating in ASEAN, there was not an international trade consulting company in BTCC’s network that could provide close and continued support to companies conducting business with Brazil, Thailand, and ASEAN countries. Using the business expertise and senior contacts developed in Brazil, Thailand, and the ASEAN region, the company was rebranded ABC to support Brazilian companies ready to expand their businesses to the ASEAN region, and ASEAN companies ready to expand their businesses to Brazil.
Marcelo’s business experience was acquired over almost four decades of work in four continents, consistently delivering as a senior executive in challenging sectors such as defense, banking, international trade, and gems and jewelry. Marcelo holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus in International Business from the University of Arizona; and a Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Sciences with a minor on Electronic Engineering from the Brazilian Naval Academy (Escola Naval). In addition, Marcelo is a proud recipient of the Brazilian Order of Baron of Maua (Knight Commander), bestowed on him by the Brazilian Ministry of Industry and Commerce for relevant services to the Brazilian industry and commerce sectors; and of the Brazilian Order of Rio Branco (Officer), bestowed on him by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his relevant services to Brazil’s international trade and industry.
